The Subscription Settings service and corresponding application and proxy needs to be running in order to make changes to these settings.

Error:

The Subscription Settings service and corresponding application and proxy needs to be running in order to make changes to these settings.

Reason:
You will get this error when you are trying to create the "App URL" through "Configure App URLs" in central admin.

Solution:

  • First you need to provide the "db creator" role for the specific user which you are going to use for the "Subscription service"
  • Then you need to enable the "Subscription service" ONLY  through the below PowerShell script. (Replace your actual values in the highlighted areas)

$account = Get-SPManagedAccount domainname\username
$appPool = New-SPServiceApplicationPool -Name SubscriptionServiceAppPool -Account $account
$serviceApp = New-SPSubscriptionSettingsServiceApplication -ApplicationPool $appPool -name "Subscription Settings Service Application" -DatabaseName "SP2013DEV-SubscriptionSettingsDB"
$serviceAppProxy = New-SPSubscriptionSettingsServiceApplicationProxy -ServiceApplication $serviceApp

  • Then go to Application management  --> Manage services on the server  and start the "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Subscription Settings Service" service
  • Then click the "Apps" in the left navigation and click the "Configure Apps URLs" and your error will not be displayed there

"Search Service Host Controller" struck in "Starting" state

Reason:
You will get this error when you are trying to start the "Search Service Host Controller" or Your Search may not be started due to this service.

Solution:
This issue killed me a lot.. :(
After a long research I have found that this "Search Host Controller" will work only if some of the supporting services are running.
So make sure that the below services are up and running in the "Services.msc" console.

1. Net. Tcp Port Sharing Service
2. Net. Tcp Listener Adapter
3. Remote Registry
4. Appfabric Caching Service

Also I have changed the user name in the "C:\program Files\AppFabric 1.1 for Windows Server\DistributedCacheService.exe.config". See the screenshot below.

Previously the "account" attribute had "Local Service" and I changed to the "farm Administrator" account.
I am not sure the last step also helped me to resolve the issue.

But now the "Search Service Host Controller" is working fine and the Search crawler is started the "Full crawl"

Failed to connect to hosts in the cluster

Issue:

    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Use-CacheCluster], DataCacheException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.ApplicationServer.Caching.DataCacheException,Microsoft.ApplicationServer.Caching.Commands.UseCacheClusterCommand

Reason:

You will get this error when you are running the " Use-CacheCluster" command in powershell. The reason is the "Remote Registry" service might not be running.

Solution:
1. Go to "Run" window and type "Services.msc"
2. If the "Remote Registry" service is stopped, then make it as "Automatic" and "Start" the service.

"Cannot contact site at the specified URL http://MachineName:5000/sites/dev/."

Reason:
You might have provided entry to that SharePoint server in your "hosts" file. The "hosts" file will be under "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc".

Solution:
1. Go to that folder and edit the "hosts" file in Notepad and remove the "mapping" for that server.
2. Reset the IIS.
3. Close and re-open the Visual Studio 2012.
4. Now create the Solution in Visual Studio and you will not see this error.

Reason:
Microsoft only knows the actual reason. :) But the "Tasks" folder in the server does not have "Read" & "Write" access for the WSS_WPG account.

Solution:
You need to provide the Read & Write access permission to the "WSS_WPG" user in  "C:\Windows\Tasks" folder.

SiteManager.aspx is not working properly in SharePoint 2010.

Reason:
Usually you will get this error, when you are trying to access the "SiteManager.aspx" page in SharePoint 2010, once you are upgraded the MOSS 2007 content database to SharePoint 2010 environment.

The possible reasons are:
 1. Once upgraded from MOSS 2007 to SP 2010, some of the relationships may be missed out.
 2. Some of the required list may be deleted from the portal.
 3. “Relationship List” might not be upgraded when we are migrating the MOSS 2007 portal.
 4. Some of the list columns may be corrupted.

Possible solutions for the above issues:
1. We may need to deactivate the publishing feature and activate them again.
2. Check the Recycle bin and restore the deleted list
3. As the site collection administrator, deactivate the "SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature" under the "Site Settings" for that specific site collection. Then delete the "Relationships List". The relationship list path will look like "HTTP://172.16.145.21:5444/Relationships%20List/allitems.aspx". Now re-activate the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature and the Relationships List will be recreated with the correct column types.
4.Open all the list and it’s list settings page. If any of the list settings page is throwing error, then that is the cause of the error.

Actual Solution:
"Fantastic 40" templates may be missed out in the new SharePoint 2010 server. So you need to deploy and activate the missing "Fantastic 40" templates.

You can download the missing WSP files from https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=C43A63D507D8196E&id=C43A63D507D8196E!1042&sc=documents

Issue: Calendar list is Missing in SharePoint 2010

Issue:
Calendar list is Missing in SharePoint 2010.

Reason:
The required "site feature" may not be activated in the SharePoint portal.

Solution:
1. Go to the "Site Settings"
2. Go to "Manage Site Features"
3. Check "Group Work Lists" feature is activated or not. If not, Activate the feature.

Thats it...

Update:
If you are not able to view / create lists or document library or task library, you need to activate the "Team Collaboration Lists" site feature.
